We Are All One
In yoga, you learn that we are all one. That all beings, small and big, human and wild, are all connected. And that because of this connection, every action you take—good or bad—creates ripples out into the world that affects us all.
Admittedly, this is a crazy concept to get behind at first and I was hesitant too when I first was introduced to the concept. But overtime, I started to notice these connections as I studied more yoga philosophy, practiced more yoga, got to know myself more, and as I experienced the world more. And now, I see the truth in this idea of oneness.
I see oneness the most when I am out in nature and/or when I am observing wildlife. The natural world is a constant reminder of how simple all of our needs are at the root of our being. As is reflected in the wilderness around us, we all are the same—we all are just trying to survive, to provide for those we love, and to maybe, find a little joy along the way. I was most recently reminded of this during a trip to Alaska, where I witnessed many creatures, big and small, all just enjoying the beauty of summer and life between the otherwise harsh climate in the Alaskan wilderness.
Witnessing Alaskan wildlife in their natural habitat was truly incredible. The views of the landscape itself were breathtaking but then to see these creatures emerge into view while already being in awe at the miracles of the world was an experience like no other. In those moments, I felt the deep connection between the earth, these creatures, and me. I felt the oneness that ties all of our world together and was instantly at peace. For when you see the oneness in all beings and feel the connection, you can find peace in knowing that the good you bring into the world spreads throughout—even if you cannot always see its results. And that similarly, the good others bring into the world spreads to expand your own joy and lightness.
On this great big world, we are all just creatures experiencing life. We are here for a just a moment in time but our spirit continues on for ever in the creatures that come and go after us. Find peace in this simple comfort and accept that our only goal is live, to try to do good, and to try and bring goodness into the world so that the light and peace we bring can spread to others.
